GREENFIELDLocated just south of downtown along the Green River, the UrbanRiver Visions 2 site for Greenfield is home to several industrial and brownfield properties, including the Greenfield Tap and Die site and the Greenfield Steel Stamp Works. Opportunities include improving habitats and water quality, enhancing riverfront access and recreation offerings, and spurring economic development in and around downtown. The Greenfield charrette, held on the evenings of Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2, brought over 50 local residents and civic leaders together at Greenfield Middle School to discuss concerns and opportunities related to the future of the Green River. Participants worked in small groups to identify those actions - large and small - that would enable Greenfield to better celebrate the river as an ecological, education, and recreation resource, as well as a means for drawing people to the center of Greenfield. A highlight of the event was the site tour, which offered participants a first-hand look at the project area. Volunteer "tour guides" answered questions and recorded comments at key locations on land, while "rafting guides" escorted participants down the Green River on rafts. Notes and products from the charrette are recorded in the Summary Report. A unified vision plan synthesizing the charrette outcomes will be presented at a community meeting on Monday, June 11 at Greenfield Community College's Downtown Center.
